Love letter of the Day:

To Adele Foucher

My dearest,
When two souls, which have sought each other for,
however long in the throng, have finally found each other …a union, fiery and pure as they themselves are… begins on earth and continues forever in heaven.

This union is love, true love, … a religion, which deifies the loved one, whose life comes from devotion and passion, and for which the greatest sacrifices are the sweetest delights.

This is the love which you inspire in me… Your soul is made to love with the purity and passion of angels; but perhaps it can only love another angel, in which case I must tremble with apprehension.

Yours forever,
Victor Hugo (1821)

Poem of the Day:

Wondrous Moment

The wondrous moment of our meeting . . .
I well remember you appear
Before me like a vision fleeting,
A beauty’s angel pure and clear.

In hopeless ennui surrounding
The worldly bustle, to my ear
For long your tender voice kept sounding,
For long in dreams came features dear.

Time passed. Unruly storms confounded
Old dreams, and I from year to year
Forgot how tender you had sounded,
Your heavenly features once so dear.

My backwoods days dragged slow and quiet-
Dull fence around, dark vault above-
Devoid of God and uninspired,
Devoid of tears, of fire, of love.

Sleep from my soul began retreating,
And here you once again appear
Before me like a vision fleeting,
A beauty’s angel pure and clear.

In ecstasy the heart is beating,
Old joys for it anew revive;
Inspired and God-filled, it is greeting
The fire, and tears, and love alive.

Alexander Pushkin

Valentine’s Day Story:

In 1957 I was a young Marine stationed at El Toro MCAS in Southern California. I had grown up in Burbank and would go home on weekends. I was head over heels in love with the most beautiful girl in the San Fernando Valley. However duty called and I was sent overseas. Due to difference in our religions, out mothers opposed our romance. Sadly we lost contact. I never forgot lovely Winona. 47 years later thanks to the internet Winona found me again. She showed me a picture of me she had kept all these years. On the back she had written “This is the man I should have married.” Now this Valentine’s Day we will celebrate our first anniversary. That lovely Valley Girl is my wife at last.

Love letter of the Day:

To my beloved

You are the most special person in my life and I love you from the core of my heart. You are there in me, in my thoughts and in my dreams. Without you my life loses its meanings. Even an hour with you causes pain in my heart. I wish we would never part.
Yours forever
Mitali

Poem of the Day:

She Walks In Beauty
She walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that’s best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes:
Thus mellowed to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.

One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impaired the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens o’er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express
How pure, how dear their dwelling place.

And on that cheek, and o’er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent!

Lord Byron

Valentine’s Day Story:

My favorite Valentine’s Day was the year I received flowers at work the week before Valentine’s Day with this note “I couldn’t wait until Valentine’s Day to say I Love You.”  It was more of a surprise to get them early and such a great way of telling me he loved me.  We just celebrated our 27th wedding anniversary and I wouldn’t trade him for anything!

Love letter of the Day:

Ludwig van Beethoven to his “Immortal Beloved”

July 6, 1806

My angel, my all, my very self — only a few words today and at that with your pencil — not till tomorrow will my lodgings be definitely determined upon — what a useless waste of time. Why this deep sorrow where necessity speaks — can our love endure except through sacrifices — except through not demanding everything — can you change it that you are not wholly mine, I not wholly thine?

Oh, God! look out into the beauties of nature and comfort yourself with that which must be — love demands everything and that very justly — that it is with me so far as you are concerned, and you with
me. If we were wholly united you would feel the pain of it as little as I!

Now a quick change to things internal from things external. We shall surely see each other; moreover, I cannot communicate to you the observations I have made during the last few days touching my own life — if our hearts were always close together I would make none of the kind. My heart is full of many things to say to you – Ah! — there are moments when I feel that speech is nothing after all — cheer up — remain my true, only treasure, my all as I am yours; the gods must send us the rest that which shall be best for us.

Your faithful,
Ludwig

Poem of the Day:

The Definition Of Love

My love is of a birth as rare
As ’tis for object strange and high:
It was begotten by Despair
Upon Impossibility.

Magnanimous Despair alone
Could show me so divine a thing,
Where feeble Hope could ne’er have flown
But vainly flapped its tinsel wing.

And yet I quickly might arrive
Where my extended soul is fixed
But Fate does iron wedges drive,
And always crowds itself betwixt.

For Fate with jealous eye does see
Two perfect loves, nor lets them close:
Their union would her ruin be,
And her tyrranic power depose.

And therefore her decrees of steel
Us as the distant Poles have placed
(Though Love’s whole world on us doth wheel)
Not by themselves to be embraced,

Unless the giddy heaven fall,
And earth some new convulsion tear;
And, us to join, the world should all
Be cramped into a planisphere.

As lines (so loves) oblique may well
Themselves in every angle greet:
But ours so truly parallel,
Though infinite, can never meet.

Therefore the love which us doth bind,
But Fate so enviously debars,
Is the conjunction of the mind,
And opposition of the stars.

Andrew Marvell

Valentine’s Day Story:

I am an emergency room nurse and I work 12 hour shifts ending at around midnight.  Last Saturday, two days before Valentine’s Day, I came home after the second of two busy shifts.  I kissed my husband who was up watching a movie, spent a few minutes with him and then walked upstairs to put my bag in our bedroom.  There was a beautiful bouquet of red roses on the table in the hallway and a card taped on our bedroom door with a safety pin on it.  The card said “I love you more than I can show”.  Well, I was so touched— but wondered what the safety pin was for.  I found out as soon as I opened the bedroom door.  The room was filled with 500 red balloons.  They covered everything.  I screamed with laughter, then ran down and kissed him. We had a blast playing in the balloons— and then later using the safety pin to pop all of them. What an great surprise and what an incredible guy.  After 20 years, he just gets better and better.

Poem of the Day:

Can We Be The Best of Lovers?

“Can we be the best of lovers, not just friends? Just like in a romantic movie where strangers
fall in love before the picture ends.

And like the two lovers upon the silver screen, i hope out friendship turns into reality, not just a dream. and before the film
fades to black and the final curtain falls, my heart and soul want so

much to believe, that we too can become the best of lovers before we leave.
But, I am well aware even a wise man, can delude himself and self deceive.
So, here’s hoping my wish is granted before the reel comes to it’s end and that we too can become, the best of lovers, not just friends?

Valentine’s Day Story:

Boyfriend back from Iraq

Last year my boyfriend came home feb.13 but did not tell me. The next morning I woke up with him in my bed and freaked out!!!! It was the best day ever. We ended up going to a fondue restaurant (soooo much fun) then going to a private concert where he played a video of the first day he meet me. He said he wanted to record how he felt that day because he was sure I was the one he was going to be with for the rest of his life. Then there was three more video clips he had of him talking about me. This all ended with him down on one knee and my whole family appearing. He handed me a homemade fortune cookie reading Inside “WILL YOU MERRY ME” It was so perfect I keep looking to find what movie his idea came from. We got married the following Valentines Day. I am now proud to call him my husband and we are expecting are first child together.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Love letter of the Day:

Count Leo Tolstoy, Russian writer

To Valeria Arsenev, his fiancee.

November 2, 1856

I already love in you your beauty, but I am only beginning to love in you that which is eternal and ever precious – your heart, your soul. Beauty one could get to know and fall in love with in one hour and cease to love it as speedily; but the soul one must learn to know. Believe me, nothing on earth is given without labour, even love, the most beautiful and natural of feelings.

Poem of the Day:

Words can tell what hearts divine
This most romantic time of year:
So will you be my Valentine?

I’ll be yours if you’ll be mine
Till golden moon meets midnight drear.
For words can tell what hearts divine

When air’s perfume and water’s wine,
And cupids hover at one’s ear:
So will you be my Valentine?

And do we feelings dare define
In phrases adamant and clear?
For words can tell what hearts divine,

And souls can step across a line
On days when angels wait to cheer:
So will you be my Valentine?

Ah, love! Let love this one day shine
On fancies lush and passions sheer!
For words can tell what hearts divine:
So will you be my Valentine?

By George Friedrich Handel.

Valentine’s Day Story:

He took me to a candle light dinner. He gave me some candy hearts and we laid on the beach and looked at the stars. Then we kissed underneath the moon light. As he took my hand he gave me my Valentines gifts. He gave me a diamond heart necklace, 23real roses and one fake rose. And he told me that he would love me until the last rose died, and to this day we are still together.

I swear that he smelt so good that night and that the look in his eyes as we kissed was the most magical moment ever in my life.

The way he held me, made me fell like no one could harm me and I felt as if he would be next to me until the day I die.

When I got the roses from him and he told me that he loved me until the last one died that’s when I knew that we were meant to be forever and that no person in the world would come between me and him.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Love letter of the Day:

Journey of Love

To My Dearest Love, Jennifer

Everyday that passes

I feel that I love you more

I feel thankful for the times we spend together

I know and feel that you are my perfect companion

And friend

And I’d choose you again…

And again…

And again!

Naturally we have difficult moments

But I would not give up even these

Because it’s a part of the Journey of love

That we’ve been on

I want to travel by your side…

Forever

Because I Love You

Love you forever and always,

Jonathan

Poem of the Day:

Valentine’s a day to say, “I love you,”
A ritual that stages something real,
Letting out the truth of what I feel
Even as I think it often of you.
Nor could I with such grace without this day
Tell you that I’m grateful that I have you,
Impress upon you just how much I need you,
Needing such a frame for what I say
Even as I would my heart reveal.

Valentine’s Day Story:

I had only been dating my boyfriend for about two months by Valentine’s Day, so I wasn’t expecting much. I would have been happy just spending time with him, watching a movie in his living room, cuddling on the couch like we usually did. What I didn’t expect was the evening he had in store for me.
My boyfriend had told me the day before that he was going to make dinner for us at 6:30pm, and that we were going to watch one of my favorite movies afterward. I was upset when he called at 6pm to tell me that there was a change in plans and I wasn’t going to be able to come over. I started to complain, and ask him why he was changing the plans, but he told me not to worry, and that he would explain everything when he came over later.
I was confused by the change, and mad that he wouldn’t tell me right away what the reasoning behind it was, but I waited for him, hoping nothing had gone wrong for him at home.
I heard a knock on my door at around 7:30pm, and so I went to the door, ready for an explanation of the what had been happening that evening. When I opened the door, however, I forgot just about everything I was angry about because I was taken aback by the image in my doorway.
He had on a pair of cute jeans, a fitted dark green t-shirt (one of my favorites, as it accentuated his good physique), and a black suit jacket. I normally thought he looked good, but that day he looked more like a model than the boy I was used to. When our eyes met, he smiled broadly, and said, “Happy Valentine’s Day, sweetie,” while he took a beautiful orange rose from behind his back.
He walked me to his car, but before he opened the door for me, he had me put on a blindfold. I was very confused, but did as he asked, and he helped me into the car. The car ride wasn’t too long, but the best part was the music he played. He had made a mixed cd of some of my favorite songs, and every time I’d ask where we were going, he said not to worry about it, and to just listen to the music.
After a while, the car stopped, and he helped me out, still blindfolded. He took my arm, told me we were almost there and lead me forward. We stopped, and he walked behind me, putting both hands on my shoulders. “Are you ready?” he asked. I didn’t know how to respond, so I just nodded. He took off my blindfold, and in front of me stood a beautiful carriage with two white horses tied to it. There was a friendly looking older man sitting in the driver’s seat, and a blanket in the back.
We rode around the park for about half an hour, just cuddling in the back of the carriage, his arm around my shoulder, his other hand holding mine. I spent most of the time with my head down, looking at my rose and listening to his heart, but when I looked up, he would give me the most beautiful smile.
The night had already been great, but it was topped of with him telling me he was the luckiest guy alive and giving me the best kiss of my life.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Day 3 of 14 Days of Valentines

Love letter of the Day:

My Darling,
You are the love of my life. There has never been anyone in my life as special as you. I want to hold you, worship you, and make you very happy each and every day.
I just want you to know that I love you even more than the day we first met. I remember the way you made me feel.
I am totally devoted to you. Sinc you have become part of my life. I have become a better person. I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I love you.
With all my heart.

Poem of the Day:

Will you be my Valentine?
I know that I am yours.
You are like a tossing sea
And I am like your shores.

You are like an endless wave
And I your waiting sand.
And I will wait forever as
You come and smooth my hand.

I will wait forever, yet
You are a part of me.
I hold you in my arms, while you
Come to me endlessly.

Will you be my Valentine?
I know that I am yours.
I love you with a love that yearns
To be your golden shores.

Valentine’s Day Story:

The most romantic thing I ever did for my boyfriend (now husband) was to create a Valentine that let him know I was thinking of him all day long. I created eight hand made Valentine cards with stickers, lacy doilies, scrapbook materials, and fancy edged scissors, the result was that they were all very cute and very “Valentiney.” I was sure to make each one as different as possible so they weren’t all boring folded in half cards. It took a lot of time, and it showed in the end product.

Then I arranged for one of his co-workers to “mysteriously” put one of the cards on his desk each hour throughout the workday. For the first seven cards I didn’t sign them, so there was an air of mystery about who the cards were coming from. The last card revealed that they were all from me and gave him directions as to where to meet me for dinner that night.

Even though this wasn’t the most elaborate or expensive Valentine’s Day surprises, he really loved it because he knew it had taken me a long time to make the cards and make arrangements for them to be delivered to him. I think that creativity and giving something that you’ve crafted with your own hands are some of the best ways to show your sweetheart that you absolutely love and care for them. My husband still has all the Valentine’s I sent him that day, even though it’s been almost five years now.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Love letter of the Day:

After the two delightful evenings spent yesterday and the day before, I shall certainly not go out tonight, but will sit here at home and write to you.

Besides, my Adele, my adorable and adored Adele, what have I not to tell you?

O, God! for two days, I have been asking myself every moment if such happiness is not a dream.

It seems to me that what I feel is not of earth. I cannot yet comprehend this cloudless heaven.

You do not yet know, Adele, to what I had resigned myself. Alas, do I know it myself?

Because I was weak, I fancied I was calm; because I was preparing myself for all the mad follies of despair, I thought I was courageous and resigned.

Ah! let me cast myself humbly at your feet, you who are so grand, so tender and strong!

I had been thinking that the utmost limit of my devotion could only be the sacrifice of my life; but you, my generous love, were ready to sacrifice for me the repose of yours.

You have been privileged to receive every gift from nature, you have both fortitude and tears.

Oh, Adele, do not mistake these words for blind enthusiasm – enthusiasm for you has lasted all my life, and increased day by day.

My whole soul is yours.

If my entire existence had not been yours, the harmony of my being would have been lost, and I must have died — died inevitably.

These were my meditations, Adele, when the letter that was to bring me hope of else despair arrived.

If you love me, you know what must have been my joy. What I know you may have felt, I will not describe.

My Adele, why is there no word for this but joy? Is it because there is no power in human speech to express such happiness?

The sudden bound from mournful resignation to infinite felicity seemed to upset me. Even now I am still beside myself and sometimes I tremble lest I should suddenly awaken from this dream divine.

Oh, now you are mine! At last you are mine! Soon — in a few months, perhaps, my angel will sleep in my arms, will awaken in my arms, will live there.

All your thoughts at all moments, all your looks will be for me; all my thoughts, all my moments, all my looks, will be for you!

My Adele!

Adieu, my angel, my beloved Adele! Adieu!

I will kiss your hair and go to bed.

Still I am far from you, but I can dream of you.

Soon perhaps you will be at my side.

Adieu; pardon the delirium of your husband who embraces you, and who adores you, both for this life and another.

Victor Hugo to Adele Foucher

We think of with a smile.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

With its trimmings & lace

Love is like sunshine,

Strong & true,

Love is all that I feel so deeply for you

Tender and Sensual Love Letter

30 Jan

A very tender and sensual love letter written by Katherine Mansfield. (It would not be hard to adapt this into an e-mail- just replace details with ones that fit your lover.)

My darling

Do not imagine, because you find these lines in your private book, that I have been trespassing. You know I have not — and where else shall I leave a love letter? For I long to write you a love letter tonight. You are all about me — I seem to breathe you — hear you — feel you in me and of me — What am I doing here? You are away — I have seen you in the train, at the station, driving up, sitting in the lamplight talking, greeting people — washing your hands — And I am here — in your tent — sitting at your table. There are some wallflower petals on the table and a dead match, a blue pencil and a Magdeburgische Zeitung. I am just as much at home as they …

Last night, there was a moment before you got into bed. You stood, quite naked, bending forward a little — talking. It was only for an instant. I saw you — I loved you so — loved your body with such tenderness — Ah my dear — And I am not thinking now of “passion”. No, of that other thing that makes me feel that every inch of you is so precious to me. Your soft shoulders — your creamy warm skin, your ears, cold like shells are cold — your long legs and your feet that I love to clasp with my feet — the feeling of your belly — & your thin young back — Just below that bone that sticks out at the back of your neck you have a little mole. It is partly because we are young that I feel this tenderness — I love your youth — I could not bear that it should be touched even by a cold wind if I were the Lord.

We two, you know, have everything before us, and we shall do very great things — I have perfect faith in us — and so perfect is my love for you that I am, as it were, still, silent to my very soul. I want nobody but you for my lover and my friend and to nobody but you shall I be faithful.

I am yours for ever, Tig
